How We’re Different

Learning Differences World and its staff will work to ensure we are exercising fiscal responsibility with all priorities, focus, and always seek a return on investment. In that spirit, we outline the things we will strive to do better and differently.

We will embed the education and mentorship of families, schools, and our communities across all our work. Each program or initiative will include an education component as part of its design and work plan.

  • We will only support programs and initiatives that have advocacy, families and children, diversity, mentoring, and equity as outcomes of those programs. This will be a learning process that emerges from the collective wisdom of our communities who will help drive that work forward. If the interest and human and financial capital necessary to achieve our desired outcomes do not exist, we will reassess those activities.

  • We will spend wisely and reduce costs by eliminating waste when and where feasible.

  • We will focus staff time and limited resources to participation in the strategic initiatives outlined in this plan. If we have a desire to focus on new areas of growth, we will create a time and space to explore those opportunities outside of our typical work.

  • We will focus on investing in programs, partnerships, and projects that meet our criteria, including relevance to our strategic plan, sufficient return on investment, critical support for our core outcomes, timely reporting of results, and intentional diversity and inclusion components.

  • We will intentionally produce content and programming that advances our mission and goals.

  • We will remove the fear of retribution creating a safe space for everyone to be open and honest. We will show up and engage with integrity. We will walk the talk and offer constructive ideas rather than criticism in every setting and in every encounter in which we engage.

This plan is fluid, dynamic, and adjustable as time passes. As we delve deeper into new areas of growth, we know we will stumble. We know we will make mistakes and need to course correct. It is our goal when this happens to take a pause, evaluate what went wrong, and pivot based on learned assumptions. We intend to be proactive and reactive to all situations, but we cannot foresee all. It is our belief that should school and school systems ever decide to adhere to IDEA and do their due diligence in applying equity across settings for students with learning differences, we would be out of a job. We would humbly embrace that notion. Until such time, we will strive to ensure all families of children with learning differences feel supported and have hope for the future with a trusted ally at the table with them.
