Parent Trainings

Parent/family training is to assist parents/families in acquiring skills to support the implementation of their child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP)

Training Can:

  • Assist parents/families in understanding the educational needs of their student’s

  • Provide parents/families with information about student's development

Training Can:

  • Providing support and basic information about a student’s initial placement in special education and

  • Provide parents/families with contact information about support groups, financial assistance resources, and other potential sources of information or support outside the school system

 

Educator & Community Trainings

Educator and community training is intended to benefit the child (and family) by helping schools, providers, and other agencies to make greater gains toward meeting student’s IEP goals and objectives by further understanding the IEP process and legal requirements.

Educator Training can help:

  • Understand the parent/families perspective

  • Develop their ‘soft skills’

In-depth training can help teach:

  • How to write an effective and robust IEP

  • How to facilitate an IEP meeting with open communication

  • Understanding and adhering to IDEA and other timelines

  • Understanding the legality of each IEP document and section

  • Educational process for ALP, 504, and IEP

 

Community Training can help:

  • Understand the parent/family perspective

  • Normalize educational advocacy and build a culture which supports students with learning differences 

    • Collaborate with like-minded organizations 

  • Understand the basic IEP process and necessity of educational advocacy
